i was fat. i used to weight 230 pounds and i started swimming in my school team. then after half a year i lost a lot and now i weight 155 and yeah.. i still swim every day after school. :)

It’s about the best way. It is most effective if you do a sprint to one side of the pool and then slow crawl back again…repeat 10 to 20 times depending on the length of the pool. This is a form of HIIT training.

It’s pretty much the best way as it exercises the entire body and puts less straing on muscles and joints.

iv been swimming since i was about 7 years old and in these past yearss i lost like 20 lbs in like less then a month. i got abbs and a lot of muscle but it wasnt too noticeable. so yeah it is a good way to lose some weight but also put a little muscle to you.

Try something called “hypoxic swimming”. I learned about it in a Navy SEAL PT manual.

Basically you swim as far as you can under water on a full breath. When you have to come up for air, you exhale your breath, take another, exhale fully and swim as far as you can on empty lungs.

Do that for as long as you like. Your lung capacity will skyrocket, your cardio will go waaaaaay up, and your metabolism will follow them both. :)

yes… i may be young.. but it is great exercise… you burn lots of calories… when you run out of ragular energy, your back up is the fat that you store.. i swim 2 hours a day 5 times a week.. but thats because i am on a swim team.. but if you swim for 1 hour or a little more for like 3-4 days a week… you sould lose pretty fast… i am in perfict shape and mantaining my ideal wheight… and with this you could too…=D

Definetly, But first before saying anything don’t try hypoxic swimming because it’s way to hard for the beginning and when you decide to start doing it, just notice any one in the pool to keep an eye on you just in case any emergency happens because even good swimmers some times lose it and some body has to jump in the pool and get them out. In the beginning just do small groups so you don’t die and because it’s way usually borring for non swimmers and try to make it fun . If you have a friend just swim for a while and then use the board and talk while kicking so you don’t get borred ! the first week just do a 1 km and to not be hungry like hell afterwards and fight temptation afterwards but still don’t starve your self ! =) … with a 1000 you’ll just get use to it after a week or 10 days start maing it 1,5 km and then keep on swimming like this till you get used to it and then take it to the next level where you can swim 3-4 km … and belive me when I swim 6 km and I’m a swimmer and quite fit . I still loose around 1 lb per training but then I eat like a monster and gain it back but you can easily cut off around 10 lbs in a month or less even !!! and to get the balance of the water and help you to get better. Try to do core body exercises. It will get you in shape and also make you better in the water. In the beginning it will be hard but try to keep doing them !!! don’t worry you’ll cut off a lot of weight through swimming !! Good Luck ! =D

You have written a very nice article here. Even though I don’t agree with every point you make, I do agree with the overall content.

If I had to pick something about this article that I like the best, I think it would be that it’s so clear-cut. Besides that, I would have to say it’s highly engaging and intelligent.
