Board Shorts

August 5th, 2009 10 Comments   Posted in Clothing
Board shorts have become all the rage since they first hit America in the 60’s. If you remember before then the beach apparel for men and women had little to be desired with options such as speedos and swimming costumes that came down to you’re your thighs. Board shorts took the world by storm for many reasons, one because they were practical beach wear and two because they were really funky and cool looking even to the point where even if you weren’t going to the beach you would wear them in nice weather.

Designed and developed by two surfers they made a style of short that was perfect for surfing and beach wear. They made it into everything that the regular short wasn’t and everything that annoyed them about wearing regular shorts while on the beach. Such as they made them light and fast drying because they hated being wet time after coming out of the water and feeling wet and soggy, they made them easy to move around in so the shorts don’t rub you when you’re in the water or on your board, they designed THE perfect short.

Whether it was the cool designs of the shorts or the fact that the cool surfers wore them, either way they became a fashion statement, everyone was wearing them, from Brad Pitt to everyone one on the beach. And this doesn’t stop at men either, Quicksilver picked up on the massive market of the female surfer and developed their own brand of boardshorts designed especially for women, you may have heard of it, Roxy. It is now a multi-million pound industry who sells their shorts all over the world. Girls have a massive choice of shorts from long length to the knee to the short type, many different designs and styles, its such a huge market that other brands caught on to the idea and developed their own boardshorts for women as well.

Board shorts continue today to be one of the most popular items of clothing for the beach and summer wear.

Beach Wear for Women’s Body Shapes

July 18th, 2009 11 Comments   Posted in Clothing
PEAR SHAPE (Good upper body, narrow shoulders, wider bum or thighs)

Bikini

If you want to slim your lower body and add volume to your upper body, go for plain darker bottoms and a patterned or bold coloured top. To bring the eye up, you can always go for a chunky necklace as well! Boy shorts can show off a flat stomach which pears very often have, and if cut high enough can give the illusion of a flat stomach, even if yours isn’t quite at washboard level yet!

One-Piece

Go for suits that are more interesting and shapely around the neckline and plainer at the bottom. One-pieces with padding on the bust and a gathered fabric will help to balance your figure by creating volume up top. Look for clever horizontal pleating in the middle to emphasise your waist.

Cover up

Buy a large sarong in dark bold colours or large prints and tie around the smallest part of your waist to create a maxi skirt down to the floor, which will lengthen and slim your legs. Wear with your bikini top to show off your toned upper body. Go for nude coloured sandals or shoes to elongate your legs.

APPLE SHAPE (Generous bust and tummy, short waist, good legs)

Bikini

Halterneck styles are often good for apple shapes as they break up the bust and shoulders and also provide added support for generous busts. Go for colour on the bottoms and a plainer top, or just choose one colour all over. Another style of bikini top to try is a balconette style which will lift and separate your bust, giving you a longer waist and a more hourglass figure.

Some apples are conscious of their bellies, if so opt for a bikini bottom that sits just below your belly button with a high cut leg to flatten your stomach or opt for a Lycra tankini with a longer top to hold you in.

One-Piece

Heart shape necklines will help to create softer lines around the bust and break up the volume a bit making you look slimmer all over. Halterneck styles will look sexy and offer you enough support if you want to hit the swimming pool but ensure your bosoms are contained! Hidden bust support is always a great idea for bustier ladies.

Cover up

Use a large sarong that goes down to the floor, hold two corners of the sarong then twist the fabric, swapping hands to create a halterneck cover up. The style will add structure to your top half, drape down over your body to hide your belly yet show off your fantastic legs.

HOURGLASS SHAPE(Shoulders and Hips at same width, natural waist)

Bikinis

Horizontal stripes look great on hourglasses as it highlights your curves and your waist. However, keep the leg cut quite high on your bikini bottoms to avoid looking too wide on the hips.

Halterneck styles look great on hourglass shapes.

One-Piece

Deep V halternecks with a built in belt or waist panel will really emphasise the hourglass shape, boosting your bust to perfection and slimming your waist giving.

Cover Up

Kaftans with a cinched waist and low open neck will emphasise your shape nicely. Go mini or maxi depending on how much leg you want to show.

PETITE Figures

Bikinis

Triangle style bikinis look great on petit colours. Go for small prints and bright colours which will add more depth and ruffles and frills will help you to give the illusion of curves. Stay away from large prints might overwhelm your small figure.

Ties at the hips on the bikini bottoms will add width to your hips if you are quite slim and want to create more curves.

One-Piece

Vertical lines elongate the body so will make you look longer were as small prints, ruffles and frills will add just enough volume to your figure. Spaghetti straps look great on small bods like yours.

Cover ups

Petite figures can wear little shorts and vest tops and always look fantastic! A smock or tunic top can be a nice alternative but don’t go mad with prints or colours as it could drown you.

TALL AND SLIM Figures

Bikinis

A lot of tall ladies can feel self-conscious about their height and sometimes feel too skinny, but you can get away with anything when it comes to beach wear so go for bright, bold prints in interesting cuts, which will break up the length of your body.

One Piece

Look for swimsuits that are cut out with ruches, ruffles, pleats and frills on which will give the appearance of more curves. A halterneck style will give the appearance of a more generous cleavage whilst delicate stringy straps will show off your slender arms and shoulders.

Cover Up

Long maxi style kaftans and dresses look amazing on you, worn with simple flats. Again you can go for prints and colours or keep it plain and just add some bangles and a necklace to complete your look.

BOYISH AND ATHLETIC Body Shapes

Bikinis

Ruche details on tops and bottoms will add shape to your figure. Look for bright colours and feminine prints to add softness to your figure. Also try bandeau styles in a woven fabric which can give the illusion of sexy curves.

One-Piece

Cut out and scoop side swimsuits and two tone one-pieces can add depth and curves to your figure. Even better if the garments has a patterned fabric with some feminine detail on. Details and frills will add interest and give the illusion of greater shape and volume and you are one of the few shapes who can get away with an extremely low cut v neck †I’m talking down to your belly button if you dare!

Cover Up

Go for softer, flowing more feminine fabrics to create fluidity, movement and curves. Energy Efficient Replacement Windows . A huge trend for s/s09 is fringing, were a fringed summer dress would look incredible on you, as would three dimensional floral garments.

CURVY Body Shapes

Bikinis

Go all 50’s and look for high waisted briefs in a polka dot or vertical stripe and team with a little belt and halterneck style bikini top to create the ultimate glamour in poolside wear. Big black shades are a must here.

Remember that oversized prints disguise any lumps and bumps so look for large animal prints, which are massive in s/s09 or bold tribal prints to create an on trend beach look that is sexy and slimming.

One-piece

You can trick the eye in to seeing a flatter tummy by boosting the bust so look for swimwear that offers in built support. Look for Lycra styles that will hold you in at all the right places and go for deep v necks which will break up the bust. Go for plain all in ones which will elongate the body or bold large prints which will disguise any lumps and bumps.

Cover Ups

A kaftan that is nipped in at the waist yet still flowing and loose will look chic on you. If you want to show a bit more cleavage use a sarong wrapped around your waist going all the way down to the floor which will lengthen your legs, hide your stomach whilst leaving your best assets still on show.

Microkini

If you want an ultra skimpy bikini, then a microkini is just for you. A microkini is a variation of bikini that features a thin strip of cloth that covers the breast and the genital area. The term was derived from the fact that it barely covers the body thus filling the gap between nudism and conservative bathing suits. Sling Bikini

Also referred to as suspenders bikini, the sling bikini is a one-piece suit that offers less coverage than a traditional swimsuit. The sling or strap goes around the waist. Each strap is suspended from the shoulders thus, covering only the middle portion of the breasts.

Monokini

A monokini is a type of bikini that features only lower half of the bikini. It does not have a bikini top which leaves the breasts bare. A monokini is ideal for women who would want to sunbathe topless.

Because it is topless, the monokini has generated a lot of criticisms and disapprovals.

Childrens Boardshorts

June 13th, 2009 5 Comments   Posted in Clothing
Board shorts are probably the most popular form of swimming and beach wear available today, not just with men but for women too. They are so easy to wear and they are great in the sun and for on the beach. Board short companies first started with the board short that was only geared for guys, which is understandable as the majority of surfers (surfers were the reason they were invented in the first place and infact surfers first designed them) were mostly male. As time went by surfing became more and more popular amongst females too and so Quicksilver, Billabong, Roxy and Diesel all jumped on this idea and brought out their own ranges of board shorts for girls. An idea that really took off and is still going strong today.

So we have boardshorts for men, we have boardshorts for women, what about the kids? What are they suppose to wear on the beach or in the pool or when they go surfing and play other water sports? Nearly every major board short brand offers a range for children, girls and boys. They are exactly the same in style and design as men and women’s boardshorts, apart form the size of course, but everything from the material used and the funky designs are the same.

Sun Protective Boardshorts for Children

Due to the sun problems today we are forced to cover up from the sun as much as we can for health reasons. When our kids go to the beach or are just playing out in the garden protecting them from the sun and harmful sun rays is a must. We cover them head to toe in sun cream, use thick sun block on their nose and cheeks, and put big funny sun hats on them that covers their ears and neck! Something that you can do for your kids which they will actually thank you for doing is getting them a pair of super cool boardies (they will love you forever) and for you piece of mind they are made out of sun protective materials. They block out 97% of harmful ultraviolet radiation.

So what are you waiting for, have peace of mind your child will be protected from the sun, they will gladly wear them as all the cool kids are wearing them and you can get some really great deals online. Have a look for childrens boardshorts and I’m sure you’ll find something both you and your child will like.
